Write to the address above about anything: the book, the works in it, permissions, press, or an order that has gone wrong. It is read by a person.
The book is published by Seedling Systems LLC, but neither sale is transacted by us directly, and it is worth being clear about who is on the other side of each one.
The PDF is sold through Stripe, acting as merchant of record. Stripe is the seller for that transaction: it takes the payment, charges and remits any sales tax, VAT or GST that applies where you live, and handles disputes and refunds.
The printed book is sold and fulfilled by Lulu, which prints each copy to order and ships it to you. Lulu is the retailer for that transaction and its own terms, tax treatment and shipping policies apply.
Two things are offered. A Key to the Room is the complete book as a PDF file, licensed to one person for their own use. The Bound Edition is a printed copy, manufactured to order by a third-party printer and shipped directly by them.
The PDF is licensed, not sold. You may keep it, read it, and print a copy for yourself. You may not resell it, republish it, or distribute it — whole or in part — without written permission.
Prices are shown in US dollars. Any sales tax, VAT or GST is calculated at checkout according to where you are, and is collected and remitted by the merchant of record for that sale — Stripe for the PDF, Lulu for the printed book. Nothing is added after the total you approve.
The PDF is delivered by download link immediately after payment clears. Printed copies are made to order; the printer's own production and shipping estimates apply, and they are estimates rather than promises.
We will fix what we can reasonably fix: a broken download link, a file that will not open, a book that arrives damaged or misprinted. Our liability is limited to the amount you paid. Nothing here limits any right you have under consumer law that cannot be limited by agreement.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii, and any dispute belongs in the courts of that state.
If the file will not open, is corrupt, or is not what was described, you will be refunded in full. If you have not downloaded it yet, ask within 14 days and you will be refunded, no reason needed.
Because Stripe is the merchant of record, Stripe can also issue a refund on its own account within 60 days of purchase, and applies any statutory cooling-off period your country grants you. Where that gives you more than this page does, the greater right is the one that applies.
Printed copies are made individually to order, so they are not stocked and cannot be resold, and change-of-mind returns are not possible. If a copy arrives damaged, misprinted, misbound or incomplete, send a photograph within 30 days of delivery and a replacement will be printed at no cost. Lulu’s own returns policy applies alongside this.
Write to the contact address above with your order number. There is no form.
This site is a set of static files. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and builds no profile of you. Reading the preview leaves no record with us at all.
When you buy something you leave this site and complete the purchase with Stripe (the PDF) or Lulu (the printed book). They collect what a payment requires — name, email, payment details, and a billing or shipping address — and hold it under their own privacy policies. We see your email address and what you ordered, so that we can answer you if something breaks. Card numbers never reach us, and we could not retrieve them if we tried.
Your shipping address is held by Lulu, who use it to print a label. It is not passed to us and we do not keep a copy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not send marketing email unless you have asked for it. To see what we hold about you, or to have it deleted, write to the contact address above.
The photographs in this book are original works and are owned by the publisher. The book as a whole — its selection, sequence, titles and commentary — is a copyrighted compilation. Reproducing it, in print or online, needs permission.
The inscriptions and drawings photographed here were made anonymously, by many hands, in portable sanitary facilities in a public place. They are documented as found. No claim is made to authorship of them, and the commentary attached to each plate is the editors' own and is offered as such.
If you made one of these works and would rather it were not reproduced, write to us and it will be removed from the next printing and from this site. You do not need to explain why and you do not need a lawyer.

This is a fixed amount per copy sold, not a share of profit, so it does not move with printing costs or discounts. Amounts are paid over within three months of the sale.
